A Cat Called Sooty
During the winter of 2017/18 we rented a small apartment for 3 months in Finikounda in the Greek Peloponnese. Here we had the privilege of being adopted, tamed and house-trained by a small black kitten who appeared on the kitchen window sill. He has glossy black fur with a fluffy grey undercoat, brilliant green eyes and the sweetest nature. We called him Sooty and, though he only understands Greek, he didn’t mind as long as we obeyed his rules.
Favourite food: chicken. Favourite day: Friday (chicken night). Favourite sound: fridge door opening. Favourite pastimes: eating, dozing, washing and playing. Favourite places: settee, bed, window seat - and freedom to roam. Least favourite place: the vet's.
He was the perfect pet: clean, affectionate, cheeky and funny. Nothing like a feral cat, though we’ve no idea how he found us. It was really hard to leave him behind, with a new owner to train, and we think of him often. He taught us a lot.
The first photo shows the day of his arrival. In the last he is happily unaware that we are packing up to leave.
