The Archaeological Site of Palazzolo Acreide

Located at 2,200 ft/670 m above sea level, the site was a strategic defensive position in the Iblean Mountains. It was discovered by Corinthian Greek settlers who founded Akrai – the earliest sub-colony of Syracuse – around 664 BC.
