The Midsummer Carnival in the Dutch Town of Goor
On a ride along the cycle paths of the Eastern Netherlands we passed through the town of Goor. In a leafy suburb we were surprised to see numerous groups and floats preparing for their Midsummer Carnival Procession. As we left the town, we rode past people gathering along closed roads, waiting for the Carnival to begin.
Later in the day returning through Goor, the streets were littered with straw and confetti. Groups were still gathered here and there, continuing the celebrations with the aid of what we call 'Dutch Courage'.
