Finland's Wars with Russia 1939-44
The Winter War of 1939-40 between Finland and Russia ended with a fragile peace treaty, followed by the Continuation War (1941–1944). The Battle of Ilomantsi, fought from 26 July to 13 August 1944 near the Finnish-Soviet border in North Karelia, ended with a Finnish victory when the last major Soviet attack against Finland was stopped.
Our photographs were taken in and around Hattuvaara and the Fighters’ House. The indoor museum and café are open June-August; the outdoor exhibits and parking year round.
